Forma RF Skin Tightening Aftercare
Your complete recovery guide from the Luxe Lips clinical team
Educational Resource — This page provides general aftercare guidance for patients who have received forma treatment. It does not constitute medical advice. If you have any concerns about your recovery, contact the Luxe Lips clinic directly.
Forma is a non-invasive radiofrequency (RF) treatment that delivers controlled thermal energy to the skin. It is commonly used in aesthetic medicine to address skin laxity and support overall skin quality.
Compared to more intensive treatments such as Morpheus8, Forma delivers radiofrequency energy more superficially and is generally associated with a lighter recovery profile. The treatment is commonly used on the face and neck to address mild to moderate skin laxity, fine lines, and overall skin quality.
Recovery is generally straightforward, and following these aftercare guidelines can support a smooth recovery process. Every Forma treatment plan is tailored to the individual – session frequency, duration, and target areas are adjusted based on your specific skin condition and goals.
Before your forma appointment
ARRIVE WITH CLEAN SKIN
Come to your appointment with the treatment area clean and free of makeup, sunscreen, and skincare products. The RF handpiece requires direct contact with the skin during treatment.
REMOVE JEWELLERY FROM TREATMETN AREA
Metal jewellery can interfere with radiofrequency energy and must be removed from the treatment area before the session. Remove earrings, necklaces, and any facial piercings before arrival to save time.
INFORM YOUR PRACTITIONER OF IMPLANTS OR MEDICAL DEVICES
If you have any metal implants, pacemakers, or electrical devices in or near the treatment area, inform your practitioner before treatment. RF energy can interact with certain metals and electronic implants.
What to expect immediately after treatment
Forma is generally well tolerated and many patients describe the treatment as comfortable. During the session, patients typically feel a deep warmth as the handpiece is moved across the treatment area. Many patients compare it to a warm stone massage. The device includes built-in temperature monitoring designed to help maintain consistent skin temperatures during treatment.
Immediately after treatment, the treated area may appear mildly flushed — similar to the look of skin after a brisk walk in cool weather. This redness is subtle and typically resolves within thirty minutes to a few hours. Some patients notice a mild warmth that lingers for an hour or two.
The treatment does not typically create broken skin, wounds, or peeling. Many patients choose to apply makeup and return to normal activities shortly after leaving the clinic.

What to do and what to avoid during recovery
While Forma does not typically affect the skin surface, it is still good practice to apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen daily. Sun protection supports overall skin health and helps protect the skin following treatment.
Drink plenty of water following treatment. Radiofrequency treatments deliver controlled heat to deeper layers of tissue, and staying hydrated supports general recovery.
Forma generally involves minimal skincare restrictions. You may resume your usual products — including actives such as retinol and vitamin C — from the following day unless advised otherwise by your practitioner.
Hyaluronic acid serums and moisturisers help maintain skin hydration during the days following treatment.
Forma treatments are often performed as a series. Most treatment plans involve four to eight sessions, depending on the individual’s goals and practitioner assessment.
Forma generally has a relatively mild recovery profile compared with some energy-based treatments. There is generally no need to avoid makeup or cancel plans, but every patient responds differently. If you experience mild redness, it typically resolves within a few hours.
Forma treatments are designed to deliver controlled heat to the skin, which may encourage collagen activity over time. Changes are typically gradual and subtle, with improvements in skin appearance developing over several weeks rather than overnight. This gradual response reflects how the skin typically responds to thermal stimulation treatments.
While not strictly required, it is sensible to avoid saunas, steam rooms, and very hot showers for a few hours after treatment to allow any mild redness to subside comfortably.
Skincare and nutrition after Forma RF
Skincare
Normal routine
Forma is one of the few energy-based treatments that does not require a modified skincare routine. You may resume all products — including retinol, vitamin C, AHAs, and BHAs — from the day after treatment.
Hydrating products
While not mandatory, using a hyaluronic acid serum and a quality moisturiser in the weeks following Forma supports the skin’s natural hydration levels and complements the collagen-building process. Well-hydrated skin looks and feels firmer.
Sunscreen
SPF 50+ broad-spectrum protection is recommended as part of any good skincare routine. After Forma, continue or begin using a daily sunscreen to protect the skin and support the collagen your body is building.
Food & Drink
Optimising Thermal Conductivity
Because radiofrequency energy relies on water as a conductor, maintaining high internal hydration is the most significant factor for a successful session. Ensuring you are well-hydrated before and after treatment allows the RF energy to heat the target tissue more efficiently, supporting the initial collagen contraction effect.
Nutritional Co-factors for Collagen
While the immediate ‘glow’ is visible, the structural results of Forma develop over several months as new collagen matures. Supporting this process with a diet rich in Vitamin C and Zinc provides the necessary co-factors for protein synthesis, ensuring your body has the raw materials required for the remodeling phase.
General Health and Recovery
Maintaining a balanced, nutrient-dense diet and limiting inflammatory triggers like excessive sugar or alcohol in the first 24 hours supports the body’s natural healing response. While Forma is a non-invasive treatment, prioritizing systemic health ensures the skin remains in an optimal state for cellular regeneration.
How Forma builds results over time
Forma results typically develop gradually over time rather than appearing immediately. Understanding this timeline helps set realistic expectations and ensures you get the most from your treatment course.
During each Forma session, radiofrequency energy delivers controlled heat to deeper layers of the skin. This controlled heating may lead to two biological responses:
- Immediate tissue response: Heat exposure can cause temporary tightening of existing collagen structures, which some patients report noticing soon after treatment.
- Collagen response: Thermal stimulation may encourage collagen activity in the skin over time, which can contribute to gradual changes in skin appearance.
A single Forma session provides a mild stimulus. When sessions are repeated regularly -often weekly or fortnightly in a series of four to eight treatments – changes in skin appearance may develop gradually over time.
Think of it like a fitness programme for your skin: a single session may produce subtle changes, while a consistent series allows results to develop over time.
Your treatment series
Forma treatments are commonly performed as a series. A typical course involves four to eight sessions, often scheduled weekly or fortnightly. Your practitioner will recommend a treatment plan based on your skin’s condition and your goals.
After completing your initial series, maintenance sessions every four to six weeks may be recommended, especially as collagen levels change naturally over time. Collagen naturally degrades over time, so periodic maintenance keeps the stimulation going.
At each session, your practitioner will assess your progress and adjust the treatment as needed. If you have any questions between sessions, the Luxe Lips team is always available.
Your treatment plan
At Luxe Lips, Forma is valued as one of the most accessible longevity tools in our treatment offering. Within the Skin Quality → Structure → Refinement framework, Forma sits firmly in the skin quality and maintenance phases, providing consistent collagen stimulation that supports and extends the results of more intensive treatments.
Forma is an excellent maintenance treatment between more intensive procedures. Regular sessions support ongoing collagen production and help extend the results of treatments such as Morpheus8, Fotona 5D, or structural injectables. Think of Forma as the foundation of your ongoing skin maintenance, keeping the collagen stimulation continuous so that the improvements achieved through more intensive treatments are preserved and built upon over time.
Forma works synergistically with several complementary treatments. Combined with bioremodelling, it provides both collagen stimulation and deep hydration. When used between Morpheus8 sessions, it maintains the momentum of collagen production without the downtime of a more intensive session. Clinical evidence supports the safety and efficacy of combined radiofrequency and injectable treatments (Kim et al. 2014), and an 18-year safety study of 1,040 patients confirmed no adverse events when combining energy devices with cosmetic injectables (Suh et al. 2025).
Over a 12-month plan, Forma sessions are typically scheduled as a regular cadence, weekly or fortnightly, during the initial series, then every four to six weeks for maintenance. This continuous stimulation, combined with complementary treatments sequenced throughout the year, delivers the gradual, natural-looking structural optimisation that defines the Luxe Lips approach.
When you’re ready, you can schedule a session to discuss your next steps at our Moonee Ponds, Camberwell, or Brighton cosmetic clinic.
Healing timeline
Immediately After Treatment
Mild warmth and subtle redness, similar to a faint flush. The skin generally remains intact, with no wounds or peeling expected. Many patients choose to apply makeup and resume normal activities soon after treatment. Any redness or warmth resolves, typically within thirty minutes to a few hours. The skin may feel slightly tighter or smoother than usual.
Week 1
The skin may feel subtly firmer or more hydrated. These early changes are mild and may relate to the skin’s short-term response to thermal stimulation.
Weeks 4–12
Collagen activity in the skin may increase during this period. With consistent sessions, gradual changes in skin appearance may become more noticeable.
Months 3–6 (After Completing a Series)
Changes in skin appearance are often more noticeable after completing a series of four to eight sessions. Skin may appear firmer and smoother. Maintenance sessions every four to six weeks may be recommended depending on your treatment plan.

Common questions about forma aftercare
How many Forma sessions do I need?
A typical treatment course involves four to eight sessions, usually scheduled weekly or fortnightly. Results may develop gradually over a series of treatments, which is why completing the recommended course is often advised.
When will I see results from Forma?
Some patients notice a subtle tightening effect immediately. Changes in skin appearance may develop over four to twelve weeks as the skin responds to treatment. These changes are often more noticeable after completing a series of treatments and allowing time for the skin to adapt. The full benefit is typically apparent after completing a series and allowing time for collagen maturation.
Is Forma painful?
Forma is generally described as comfortable and even pleasant. The sensation is similar to a warm stone massage. The device monitors skin temperature in real time to help maintain a consistent and comfortable treatment temperature.
Can Forma replace a facelift?
Forma is not a substitute for surgical lifting. It is generally used for mild to moderate skin laxity and is often included in maintenance treatment plans. For patients with significant laxity, your practitioner may recommend alternative or complementary treatments.
Can Forma be combined with other treatments?
Yes, Forma is often used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan alongside other procedures such as injectables, Morpheus8, or laser treatments. Your practitioner will advise on the best combination and sequencing for your goals.
Is Forma safe for all skin types?
Because Forma uses radiofrequency energy (which is not absorbed by melanin), it is generally considered suitable for a wide range of skin types, including darker skin tones. . A consultation is always recommended to confirm suitability.
How long do Forma results last?
Results from a completed series can last several months. However, collagen levels change naturally over time, so maintenance sessions every four to six weeks may be recommended depending on your treatment plan.
Can Forma be used on the neck and body?
Yes, Forma is commonly used on the face, neck, and other body areas where skin tightening is desired. The same treatment principles and aftercare apply to all areas.
What is the difference between Forma and Morpheus8?
Forma delivers radiofrequency heat to the surface layers of the skin and typically involves minimal recovery time, while Morpheus8 uses RF microneedling to reach deeper layers and generally involves more recovery time. Forma is ideal for maintenance and mild laxity, while Morpheus8 is suited to more significant concerns such as acne scarring or moderate skin laxity. Your practitioner will recommend the right option based on your goals and where you are in your treatment plan.
How does Forma fit into an ongoing skin maintenance plan?
Forma is commonly used as a maintenance treatment between more intensive procedures. Regular sessions may be included between treatments such as Morpheus8, Fotona 5D, bioremodelling, or structural injectables. Many patients include Forma as part of an ongoing skin maintenance plan over the course of a year.
Is there any downtime with Forma?
Downtime is generally minimal. Many patients return to normal activities, including applying makeup, shortly after treatment.
Can I have Forma on the day of an event?
Yes, you can. Forma is often referred to as a “red carpet” treatment because it provides an immediate lifting and glowing effect with zero downtime. While you may experience a very mild, temporary flush for about thirty minutes following the session, this quickly subsides to reveal smoother, more radiant skin.
Because there are no needles, bruising, or skin shedding involved, it is perfectly safe to have a Forma session on the same day as a wedding, photo shoot, or major social event. For the most polished look, we recommend scheduling your appointment at least three to four hours before your event to allow the initial warmth to settle and your skin’s natural glow to peak.
