Exosomes are tiny extracellular vesicles that contain signaling molecules including growth factors, peptides, and RNA. In cosmetic treatment, an exosome-rich serum is applied topically to the skin after microneedling, through controlled micro-channels to support exosome delivery into the treated area.
The goal of exosome treatment is to harness cell-to-cell communication to accelerate healing, boost collagen production, and regenerate skin or hair tissue. By delivering concentrated signaling molecules directly to recipient cells, the therapy aims to stimulate structural protein synthesis, modulate local inflammatory pathways, and improve the skin’s capacity to repair and renew itself.
If you’ve been considering exosomes for skin quality and want to understand whether the treatment may suit you, one of our registered nurses will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and determine whether exosomes microneedling is likely to be appropriate.
What can exosomes microneedling help with?
Exosomes microneedling is considered for skin quality concerns where the goal is to support the skin’s own repair processes with additional cellular signaling. Because exosomes work by supporting cell-to-cell communication, they may be discussed for a range of skin quality applications. The most commonly considered concerns are:
Expression lines
Surface lines that become visible with expression or certain lighting.
Pigmentation/patchy spots
Areas where skin tone appears patchy due to sun exposure
Cheek flushing/redness
Areas of skin that appear flushed, reactive, or easily irritated..
Dull/uneven tone
Skin that appears flat or tired and lacks natural brightness.
Uneven Texture
Skin that feels rough or appears slightly irregular across the surface.
Skin Laxity
Skin that appears less structured as collagen support declines.

Review your health history and flag anything affecting suitability
Assess your skin type, concern, and treatment area
Discuss how exosomes would be applied in your case, from placement to session count
Determine whether exosomes microneedling or another option suits you
Map out a plan (areas, sessions, aftercare) only if you decide to go ahead

What to expect from your exosomes microneedling journey
Your PRF journey at Luxe Lips runs in three stages: consultation, treatment session, and recovery.
Personalised treatment plan
Your plan is built during your consultation, based on your skin type, the concern you’re addressing, and the treatment area.
You’ll see the plan including the target areas, approach, session count, spacing, and aftercare, before any treatment happens, with no obligation to proceed.
If you’d like to learn more about personalised treatment options, book your consultation now.
Your treatment session
A single exosomes session typically runs 45 to 60 minutes and includes three phases: skin preparation, the microneedling stage, and the topical exosome application immediately after.
Topical numbing cream is applied to the area before the treatment starts. Cool air or cool packs are often used during and after to keep the skin comfortable.
Your nurse will talk you through each stage so nothing comes as a surprise.
Recovery and aftercare
Some redness, warmth, and mild swelling in the treated area is normal for the first 24 to 48 hours after an exosomes microneedling session and typically settles within one to three days. Your nurse will provide specific aftercare guidance before you leave.
While unlikely, if you experience any adverse effects, please contact your local clinic so one of our aesthetics team can follow up to ensure maximum safety and satisfaction.
Your exosomes microneedling lifecycle
How exosomes microneedling progresses over time
Microneedling with exosomes treatment is typically discussed as a course of sessions. The most common protocol is three sessions spaced approximately four to six weeks apart, though the exact number and interval may vary based on the concern being treated and how your skin responds between sessions.
Because the treatment works by supporting the skin’s own repair processes, changes progress gradually. In the first 5 – 7 days some people report an initial glow as redness from the microneedling settles. Approximately 2 – 4 weeks after your treatment, skin tone may begin to look more even and texture can feel smoother. 6 to 12 weeks after, as the skin’s collagen and elastin activity responds, some people find fine lines look softer, firmness appears improved, and the appearance of scarring or pigmentation may gradually reduce.
Results from an exosomes microneedling course are not permanent. The improvements exosomes may support are subject to the ongoing ageing process, sun exposure, and other factors that affect skin quality over time. Some people may benefit from a maintenance session every six to twelve months, particularly for concerns like ongoing skin quality or post-procedural support after other resurfacing treatments. Your nurse will discuss what maintenance may suit you based on how your initial course settled.
Because exosomes microneedling works through your body’s own repair processes, general skin health is also important. Your nurse may discuss supportive skincare (barrier support, appropriate topical care) and other complementary treatments that pair with exosomes microneedling. These are discussed based on individual assessment.

Complementary treatment recommendations
Depending on your concern, exosomes microneedling may pair with treatments that address complementary aspects of skin quality. Where clinically appropriate, your nurse may discuss:
Every individual has a unique facial anatomy and structure. Your suitability for these treatments will be explored during your consultation, with outcomes varying from person to person.
Your Next Step
Choosing whether exosomes microneedling is right for you is a personal decision, and there’s no pressure to go ahead. A consultation gives you a chance to have your skin properly assessed, understand your options, and ask whatever’s on your mind, including whether an autologous alternative (PRP, PRF) or a different approach (traditional microneedling, Rejuran) may suit your concern better.

Let’s ANSWER your Exosomes questions!
Are exosomes legal for cosmetic use in Australia?
Exosomes are used in Australian cosmetic clinics under strict regulation by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). Within a cosmetic setting, they are applied topically to the skin alongside treatments like microneedling, where they reach the treatment area through the micro-channels the needling creates.
Regulations around these treatments continue to evolve, so it’s important that your clinic follows current safety and advertising guidelines. These rules exist to protect patients from exaggerated claims and to hold products to proper safety standards. At your consultation, your clinician can explain the exosome formulation used and how it sits within the current Australian framework.
What does exosomes microneedling cost at Luxe Lips?
Exosomes microneedling at Luxe Lips starts at $499 for a single skin session. A three-session skin course is $1,199, and scalp treatment begins at $699. For those addressing hair thinning, a three-session hair regrowth plan is $1,899.
The right option depends on the level of the concern being treated and how many sessions suit your skin, which is why pricing is confirmed against your individual plan. Book a consultation and your nurse will assess your skin and provide a detailed price breakdown for your particular concern.
What does downtime look like after exosomes microneedling?
Downtime is usually minimal. Most people have some redness, warmth, and mild swelling across the treated area for the first 24 to 48 hours, and this tends to settle within one to three days.
You may see light pinpoint marks or slight flaking around the three to five day mark as the surface renews. Many people return to everyday activities the same day, particularly after treatment of smaller areas.
To understand what recovery is likely to look like for your skin and concern, arrange a consultation at one of our Melbourne clinics.

How long does an exosomes treatment take?
A standard session runs between 45 and 60 minutes. That covers preparing and cleansing the skin, the microneedling stage, and the topical application of the exosome serum across the treatment area.
Your first appointment takes longer, because it includes a full consultation. Your nurse examines your skin, talks through your goals, explains the process, and sets out your aftercare before anything begins.
Most people find the session fits into their day without needing time off. Your medical professional will confirm all timeframes during your consultation.
Can exosomes microneedling be used for hair loss?
Yes. Applied to the scalp after microneedling, exosomes are considered as part of a broader approach to hair thinning and reduced scalp density. The microneedling creates micro-channels across the scalp, and the exosome serum is then applied to the treated area.
A systematic review of exosome therapy for hair regeneration reported improvements in hair density and thickness, with better outcomes where microneedling was used to support delivery. Individual response varies, and the underlying cause of thinning influences how well the approach may suit you.
Whether exosomes microneedling is appropriate for your hair loss is another matter altogether and can only be determined during a consultation.
Can I combine exosomes microneedling with other treatments?
In many cases, exosomes microneedling is planned alongside other treatments as part of a wider skin quality approach. It is commonly discussed as support following resurfacing treatments like fractional laser or chemical peels, or paired with regenerative options such as PRP, PRF, or Rejuran.
Whether a combined plan suits you depends on your skin, your concern, and what is clinically appropriate at the time. Any pairing is built around your individual assessment, not offered as a fixed package.
What are the risks of exosomes microneedling?
As with any skin treatment, microneedling with exosomes carries some risk. Common effects are temporary and relate mostly to the microneedling stage: redness, mild swelling, tenderness, and small pinpoint marks that generally settle within days.
A systematic review of microneedling with exosomes reported that side effects were transient and typically resolved within 24 to 72 hours to a week, with no treatments stopped due to adverse effects. Less common issues include temporary pigment change and, rarely, infection, which is managed through strict clinical protocols.
Your suitability and every risk are reviewed in full during your consultation.
Is there any numbing during the treatment?
Yes. A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area before the microneedling stage begins, and it is left on for around 20 to 30 minutes to take effect. This should keep the treatment comfortable throughout.
Cool air or a cooling gel is often used during and after the session to settle the skin. Most people describe the sensation as very manageable.
Comfort levels vary from person to person, so if you have concerns about sensitivity, raise them with your nurse during your consultation.
What aftercare do I need to follow after exosomes microneedling?
Aftercare centres on protecting the skin while it renews. For the first three to five days, keep to gentle products and avoid active ingredients such as retinoids, exfoliating acids, and vitamin C.
Sun protection matters most in the two weeks that follow, so daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+ is important between sessions and after your course. Your nurse gives you specific guidance before you leave, and our clinical team is reachable any time if something feels unexpected.
For aftercare matched to your skin and the area treated, go through your plan with your nurse at consultation.
