Skin quality and tissue repair are the starting point for Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. A regenerative treatment that uses your body’s own platelets.
The process starts with a small blood sample, which goes into a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the other components. The concentrated PRP is then introduced to the treatment area through multiple small placements or alongside microneedling.
Because PRP is derived from your own blood (an autologous product), there are no synthetic substances introduced to the body. The treatment uses biological components that your body already produces.
PRP is sometimes referred to colloquially as a “vampire facial”. This is the same treatment, just described in more clinical terminology.
If you’ve been considering PRP for skin quality or under-eye concerns and want to understand what may suit you, one of our AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) registered nurses will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and walk you through whether PRP is likely to be appropriate.
What can PRP Treatment help with?
PRP is considered for skin quality concerns where the goal is to support the skin’s own repair and renewal processes. The most commonly discussed applications are:
SKIN TEXTURE & RADIANCE
Uneven tone, rough texture, or dullness.
SKIN LAXITY AND FIRMNESS
Loss of tautness or definition in the skin.
UNDER-EYE REJUVENATION
Under-eye shadowing, hollowness, or crepey lines.
FINE LINES & WRINKLES
Perioral lines and creasing around the mouth.
POST-ACNE & SCARRING
Textural changes left after acne or other injuries.
THINNING HAIR
Reduced thickness, visible scalp, or loss of hair density.

How we approach PRP Treatment at Luxe Lips
Every consultation at Luxe Lips follows the same structured steps, whether you’re here for under-eye rejuvenation, post-acne mark refinement, or general skin quality concerns. Your nurse will:
Go through your medical history and check for contraindications
Examine your skin, the concern you’re addressing, and treatment area anatomy
Discuss the appropriate PRP delivery approach for your case
Determine if PRP is likely to suit what you’re describing
Map out a plan (areas, approach, aftercare) only if you decide you’d like to go ahead
Consultations for PRP can be booked at Brighton directly, or a general skin consultation at Camberwell or Moonee Ponds can be redirected to Brighton for treatment if PRP is determined suitable.
Luxe Lips operates to the standards of the Aesthetic Beauty Industry Council (ABIC), the Aesthetics Practitioners Advisory Network (APAN), and the Cosmetic Nurses Association (CNA).
What to expect from your PRP treatment journey
Your PRP journey at Luxe Lips runs in three stages: consultation, treatment session, and recovery.
Personalised treatment plan
Your plan is built during your consultation based on your skin type, the concern you’re addressing, and the treatment area.
You’ll see the plan including the target areas, approach, session count, spacing, and aftercare, before any treatment happens, with no obligation to proceed.
If you’d like to learn more about personalised treatment options, book your consultation now.
Your treatment session
PRP sessions typically run 45 to 60 minutes and includes three phases: a small blood draw from your arm, preparation of your PRP in the centrifuge, and the treatment itself.
Topical numbing cream is applied to the area before the treatment starts. Cool air or cool packs are often used during and after to keep the skin comfortable. Your nurse will talk you through each stage.
Recovery and aftercare
Some redness, mild swelling, and slight tenderness in the treatment area is normal for the first 24 to 48 hours after.
If your treatment involved microneedling, you may notice mild pinpoint marks or scabbing that fade within three to five days.
While unlikely, if you experience any adverse effects, please contact your local clinic so one of our aesthetics team can follow up to ensure maximum safety and satisfaction.
Your PRP treatment lifecycle
How PRP treatment progresses over time
PRP is usually a course of treatment rather than a single session. Commonly three sessions spaced around four to six weeks apart, though the number and spacing may vary with the concern and how your skin responds. Because it works alongside your body’s own repair processes, change tends to appear gradually over the weeks and months following each session. Scalp and hair concerns often follow a longer course than facial treatments.
Some people may begin to notice initial changes to skin quality within four to six weeks after the first session, with the more complete outcome of a course typically visible around three to six months after the final session. Individual response varies significantly.
Results from a PRP course are not permanent. The improvements PRP may support are subject to the ongoing ageing process, sun exposure, and other factors that affect skin quality over time. Some people may benefit from a maintenance session every six to twelve months, particularly for concerns like under-eye rejuvenation where the skin is thinner and change is gradual. Your nurse will discuss what maintenance may suit you based on how your initial course settled.
Sun protection is important both between sessions and after the course completes. Broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily is generally recommended. Your nurse may discuss supportive skincare (barrier support, appropriate topical care) and other complementary treatments that pair with PRP based on individual assessment.
Complementary treatment recommendations
PRP may be discussed alongside other treatments as part of a broader skin quality plan. Where clinically appropriate, your nurse may discuss:
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin)
An autologous treatment using a fibrin matrix to support gradual skin repair.
Rejuran
A polynucleotide skin booster supporting hydration and dermal repair.
Microneedling
A collagen-stimulating treatment that pairs with or supports PRP application.
Every individual has a unique facial anatomy and structure. Your suitability for these treatments will be explored during your consultation, with outcomes varying from person to person.

Your Next Step
Choosing whether PRP is right for you is a personal decision, and there’s no pressure to go ahead. A consultation gives you a chance to have your skin properly assessed, understand your options, and ask whatever’s on your mind, including whether a sibling autologous treatment (PRF) or an alternative approach (such as Rejuran, microneedling with exosomes, or a combined plan) may suit your concern better.

Let’s ANSWER your PRP treatment questions!
Is PRP treatment safe?
As with any medical treatment, PRP carries potential risks. Because PRP uses your own blood components, the risk of allergic reaction to the treatment itself is rare, but not zero.
Common, temporary effects may include redness, mild swelling, tenderness, bruising at the blood-draw site or treatment area. Where microneedling is used, pinpoint marks or mild scabbing.
Less common risks include infection, individual sensitivity, and for microneedling combinations, the additional risks of microneedling delivery. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in medium-to-darker skin types, and scarring in rare cases.
PRP is not suitable for people with bleeding or clotting disorders, active infection in the treatment area, low platelet count, or medical conditions affecting blood or immunity. Every risk is discussed in full during your consultation.
Can I have PRP while pregnant or breastfeeding?
PRP is not offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The treatment has not been studied in these groups, so there is no safety data supporting its use, and clinical practice defaults to avoiding elective procedures without that evidence.
This is a precaution, not a sign of known harm. PRP uses your own blood, but the injection component and the physiological changes of pregnancy and lactation place it outside standard treatment criteria.
Most people resume eligibility once breastfeeding ends. A medical professional can confirm your timing and map out a plan at consultation.
Does PRP still work if I'm over 50?
Absolutely. It works in your 50s, 60s, and beyond, because the mechanism relies on platelets and growth factors that your blood continues to produce throughout life.
Response may be more gradual with age though. Platelet activity and skin cell turnover slow over time, so older skin may take longer to show change and often benefits from a full course rather than a single session.
Suitability depends on your health and skin, not your age. A medical professional assesses both at consultation and advises whether PRP fits your goals.
Do I need to stop any medications or supplements before PRP?
Some do. Blood-thinning medications and supplements, including fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo, and high-dose aspirin, increase bruising and can reduce platelet performance. Anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen also interfere with the platelet activity PRP depends on.
Prescription medications are never stopped without your prescribing doctor’s approval. Timing and substitutions are decided case by case.
Bring a full list of what you take to your consultation. Your medical professional reviews it against your treatment plan and tells you what to adjust and when.
If I can only do one session, is it still worth it?
One session may produce change, but PRP works cumulatively.
Each treatment stimulates collagen and cell activity, and the effect builds across a course as those processes compound between sessions. A single session delivers a fraction of what a full course does.
But for a specific event or a first trial, one session may improve skin quality and give you a sense of how your skin responds.
To really get benefits PRP offers, a course is the standard approach. A medical professional maps the right number for your concern at consultation
Can I have PRP if I've had other cosmetic treatments?
Usually, yes. PRP is often used alongside other cosmetic treatments as part of a broader plan. What needs to be managed is spacing. Recent treatments in the same area can leave the skin actively healing, and layering too soon affects not only your comfort, but your results.
The interval depends on what you had and how the area responded. Some treatments pair well in sequence, others need weeks between them.
Tell your medical professional what you’ve had and when. They will sequence PRP into your existing plan safely at consultation.
Do you offer PRP treatments at all of your Melbourne clinics?
While we offer a range of treatments at all three of our boutiques, our PRP treatments are performed exclusively at our Brighton clinic.
We regularly welcome patients traveling to our Brighton clinic for PRP from:
- Inner East: Camberwell, Hawthorn, Kew, Canterbury, and Glen Iris.
- Inner West: Yarraville, Maribyrnong, Footscray, Kingsville, and Newport.
- Bayside & South East: Elwood, Elsternwick, Caulfield, Ormond, and Bentleigh.
While our Moonee Ponds and Camberwell clinics focus on our core treatment range, our Brighton team is fully equipped to handle your PRP consultation and treatment.
How long between my consultation and my first treatment?
In many cases you can have your consultation and first treatment on the same day, once a medical professional confirms PRP suits you and no preparation is outstanding.
A separate treatment day is needed when medications require adjusting, when a health factor needs checking, or when you want time to consider before proceeding. There is no obligation to treat on the day of your consultation.
Booking a consultation is the step that sets your timing. From there, your treatment is scheduled around what works for you.
What does PRP cost at Luxe Lips?
A single PRP session is $650. A course of three sessions is $1,500, which is the standard approach for most skin quality concerns and works out lower per session than booking individually.
Price covers the treatment itself. Where PRP is combined with another treatment or tailored to a specific concern, the plan may differ, and that is confirmed before anything proceeds.
Not sure if PRP is right for you? Start with a consultation, we’ll guide you through the process based on your skin and goals.
Can PRP be combined with another treatment in one visit?
Often, yes. PRP pairs well with microneedling in a single visit — the channels created help the plasma reach deeper layers, and the two are frequently performed together. Skin boosters and some other treatments can also be sequenced into one appointment.
Not every treatment can be combined. Certain treatments need the skin settled first, so they are spaced across separate visits.
What can share a visit depends on your skin and the treatments involved. A medical professional plans the combination and order at consultation.
