PRF is a regenerative treatment that uses a concentrated mix of your own platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors suspended in a fibrin matrix
The process begins by taking a small blood sample that is spun in a centrifuge. Unlike older platelet methods, there are no anticoagulants added to the blood sample, and it is spun at a much lower speed. That slower speed separates your blood components while allowing white blood cells and stem cells to remain inside the concentrated platelet layer. The resulting fibrin matrix creates a gel-like structural scaffold, that’s immediately applied to the treatment area.
The goal of the treatment is for the fibrin matrix to trap these growth factors and release them slowly over time for longer-lasting tissue regeneration.
If you’ve been considering PRF for skin, under-eye, or scalp/hair concerns and want to understand what may suit you, one of our AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) registered nurses will assess your condition, discuss your goals, and confirm whether PRF is likely to be appropriate.
What can PRF Treatment help with?
PRF is considered for skin quality, structural support, and scalp/hair concerns where the treatment goal is to support the body’s own repair and renewal processes. The most commonly discussed applications are:
PERIORBITAL EXPRESSION LINES
Lines around the eyes due to facial movements.
SKIN QUALITY & HYDRATION
Dullness, rough texture, or loss of hydration.
FIRMNESS & FACIAL DEFINITION
Softening of firmness or definition in the face.
SKIN TEXTURE & SURFACE MARKS
Crepey texture and residual marks on the face or neck.
THINNING HAIR
Reduced density or thinning through the hair.

How we approach PRF Treatment at Luxe Lips
Every consultation at Luxe Lips follows the same structured steps, whether you’re here for under-eye rejuvenation, biofiller-style placements, scalp thinning support, or general skin quality concerns. Your nurse will:
Review your health history and flag anything that affects whether PRF is suitable
Assess the treatment area: skin, scalp, or the concern you’re focused on
Discuss how PRF would be applied in your case, from placement to session count
Determine whether PRF fits your concern, or whether another option serves you better
Lay out a plan (areas, approach, aftercare) only if you decide you’d like to go ahead
Consultations for PRF can be booked at Brighton directly, or a general skin consultation at Camberwell or Moonee Ponds can be redirected to Brighton for treatment if PRF is determined suitable.
Luxe Lips operates to the standards of the Aesthetic Beauty Industry Council (ABIC), the Aesthetics Practitioners Advisory Network (APAN), and the Cosmetic Nurses Association (CNA).
What to expect from your PRF treatment journey
Your PRF journey at Luxe Lips runs in three stages: consultation, treatment session, and recovery.
Personalised treatment plan
Your plan is built during your consultation based on your skin type, the concern you’re addressing, and the treatment area.
You’ll see the plan including the target areas, approach, session count, spacing, and aftercare, before any treatment happens, with no obligation to proceed.
If you’d like to learn more about personalised treatment options, book your consultation now.
Your treatment session
PRF sessions typically run 45 to 60 minutes and includes three phases: a small blood draw from your arm, preparation of your PRF in the centrifuge, and the treatment itself.
Topical numbing cream is applied to the area before the treatment starts. Cool air or cool packs are often used during and after to keep the skin comfortable.
Your nurse will talk you through each stageso nothing comes as a surprise.
Recovery and aftercare
Some redness, mild swelling, and slight tenderness in the treatment area is normal for the first 24 to 48 hours after.
Scalp applications may involve mild scalp tenderness for one to two days.
While unlikely, if you experience any adverse effects, please contact your local clinic so one of our aesthetics team can follow up to ensure maximum safety and satisfaction.
Your PRF treatment lifecycle
How PRF treatment progresses over time
A course of sessions is typically how PRF is approached. The most common protocol for skin quality concerns is three sessions spaced approximately four to six weeks apart, though the exact number and interval may vary based on the concern being treated and how your skin or scalp responds between sessions. For scalp/hair applications, protocols typically involve more sessions over a longer period.
After each PRF session, the body naturally begins to break down the fibrin matrix, releasing its concentrated growth factors into the treatment area across roughly seven to ten days. This gradual release is what separates PRF from faster-acting platelet treatments, The growth factors are delivered steadily rather than all at once.
That release is the mechanism. Any visible change is a longer timeline. As the growth factors support the skin’s own repair processes, any change tends to build over the following weeks and months rather than appearing immediately. Some people notice early changes in skin quality within the first few weeks after treatment, with a fuller picture developing over three to six months after a course of sessions.
Results from a PRF course are not permanent. The improvements PRF may support are subject to the ongoing ageing process, sun exposure, hormonal factors, and other factors that affect skin or scalp quality over time. Some people may benefit from a maintenance session once or twice a year, particularly for concerns like under-eye rejuvenation or ongoing scalp support. Your nurse will discuss what maintenance may suit you based on how your initial course settled.
Sun protection is important both between sessions and after the course completes. Broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily is generally recommended for facial treatments.
Because PRF works through your body’s own repair processes, your nurse may discuss supportive skincare (barrier support, appropriate topical care), scalp care where relevant.
Complementary treatment recommendations
PRF may be discussed alongside other treatments as part of a broader skin, scalp, or overall quality plan. Where clinically appropriate, your nurse may discuss:
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)
The liquid platelet sibling to PRF, applied for broader skin support.
Rejuran
A polynucleotide skin booster supporting hydration and dermal repair.
Morpheus8
RF microneedling that pairs with PRF for deeper skin remodelling.
Every individual has a unique facial anatomy and structure. Your suitability for these treatments will be explored during your consultation, with outcomes varying from person to person.

Your Next Step
Choosing whether PRF is right for you is a personal decision, and there’s no pressure to go ahead. A consultation gives you a chance to have your skin (or scalp) assessed, understand your options, and ask whatever’s on your mind, including whether PRP (the sibling autologous treatment) or an alternative approach (such as Rejuran or Morpheus8) may suit your concern better.

Let’s ANSWER your PRF treatment questions!
What are the risks of PRF?
PRF carries real risks, and they should be understood before treatment. The blood draw and injection sites can bruise, swell, and stay tender for several days. Pinpoint marks, and temporary redness are also common.
While serious complications are rare, infection is possible whenever the skin is broken, which is why sterile preparation and handling are so important. Nodules or lumps can form where the fibrin is placed. Under-eye treatment carries added risk given the delicate tissue.
PRF is unsuitable for people with blood disorders, active infection, or certain medications. A medical professional can review your history at consultation and tell you which risks apply to you.
What is PRF best known for treating?
PRF is best known for treating the under-eye area. The skin here is thin and delicate, and its structure makes it difficult to address with many other approaches.
PRF suits this area because the fibrin matrix holds its position once placed, rather than dispersing, and releases growth factors gradually into tissue that repairs slowly. This is why under-eye hollowing, shadowing, and fine crepey skin are the concerns most often brought to PRF.
It is also used across the wider face, neck, and scalp. To find out whether your under-eye concern suits PRF, book a consultation with a medical professional.
Should I choose PRP or PRF for hair loss?
Both PRP and PRF are used for hair thinning, and the difference is in how they work. PRP is a liquid, which lets it spread across a broader area of the scalp. PRF forms a fibrin matrix that holds at the injection site and releases growth factors slowly over about a week.
PRP suits treating density across a wider area. PRF suits sustained delivery to a specific site. Many plans consider both.
Which fits your pattern of thinning depends on your scalp and goals. A medical professional maps the right approach at consultation, where the two can be compared.
Why does PRF take longer to show change than other treatments?
PRF works gradually by design. The fibrin matrix breaks down slowly after treatment, releasing its growth factors over roughly seven to ten days rather than all at once.
Those growth factors then support the skin’s own repair processes. Change tends to build over weeks and months as that repair progresses, rather than appearing immediately after a session.
This is a difference in mechanism, not a shortcoming. A medical professional can explain what timeline to expect for your concern when you book a consultation.
Does PRF work for a receding hairline specifically?
A receding hairline can respond to PRF, but the result depends on what is driving it. Where follicles are thinning but still active, the growth factors PRF delivers may support the surrounding scalp. Where follicles are no longer active, PRF cannot restore them.
A receding line caused by early thinning is a different situation from one where hair has been absent for years, and the two do not respond the same way.
During your consultation a medical professional examines your hairline and tells you whether PRF is likely to help before you commit.
Can I have PRF if I have thin or crepey skin?
Thin and crepey skin is one of the situations PRF is most often considered for. As skin loses thickness, it becomes harder to treat, and the fibrin matrix PRF forms is suited to placement in delicate tissue.
The growth factors are released into the area gradually, supporting the skin’s repair processes over time. This is why the under-eye, neck, and other thin-skinned areas are common treatment sites.
Whether your skin suits PRF still depends on an assessment of its condition and your overall health.
Do you offer PRF treatments at all of your Melbourne clinics?
While we offer a range of treatments at all three of our boutiques, our PRF treatments are performed exclusively at our Luxe Lips Cosmetic Clinic Brighton location.
We regularly welcome patients traveling to our Brighton clinic for PRF from:
- Inner East: Camberwell, Balwyn, Hawthorn East, Glen Iris, and Ashburton.
- South East: Carnegie, Ashwood, Murrumbeena, and Chadstone.
- Inner South: Toorak, Armadale, Malvern, and Prahran.
While our Luxe Lips Moonee Ponds and Camberwell clinics focus on our core treatment range, our Brighton team is fully equipped to handle your PRF consultation and treatment.
How long does a PRF session take?
Set aside about an hour for a PRF appointment. The treatment itself is shorter, but the full visit includes preparation that cannot be rushed.
Your blood is drawn on the day and spun to form the fibrin, which takes time before anything is applied. Numbing, where used, adds a further wait. The placement itself is the quickest part.
Scalp or multi-area treatments run longer than a single facial zone. Your timing is confirmed once your plan is set during a consultation.
What should I do to prepare for my PRF appointment?
A few steps in the days before help PRF go smoothly. Stay well hydrated, since your blood is drawn on the day and hydration affects the sample. Eat beforehand so you don’t arrive on an empty stomach.
Avoid alcohol for a day or two prior, and check any blood-thinning medications or supplements with the clinic ahead of time, as some increase bruising. Arrive with the treatment area clean and free of make-up where possible.
Following these basic guidelines beforehand can help ensure your treatment goes as smoothly as possible.
How much does PRF cost at Luxe Lips?
A single PRF session is $650. A course of three sessions is $1,500, which is the usual approach for most concerns and works out lower per session than booking one at a time.
The price covers the treatment. Where PRF is combined with another treatment, or tailored to scalp or multiple areas, the plan may differ, and that is confirmed before you commit to anything.
Most people start with the three-session course. A medical professional confirms the right plan for your concern at consultation, where your treatment is priced to what you need.
