Bioremodelling Aftercare
Educational Resource — This page provides general aftercare guidance for patients who have received bioremodelling treatment. It does not constitute medical advice. If you have any concerns about your recovery, contact the Luxe Lips clinic directly.
Bioremodelling is a clinical procedure aimed at supporting overall skin quality. Rather than adding structural volume, the treatment focuses on skin health. The formulation is placed within the skin using a clinically selected technique and is intended to support processes associated with structural skin components such as collagen and elastin.
This bioremodelling aftercare guide outlines what you may notice during your recovery, from the first 24 hours through to ongoing aftercare and maintenance.
Changes are not immediate. Any visible changes develop gradually over several weeks as the skin responds to the procedure. Bioremodelling recovery is a gradual process that benefits from patience and appropriate care.
Your practitioner has selected the injection points and technique based on your individual anatomy, skin characteristics, and treatment plan. Following the guidance provided in this guide can help support your skin during the recovery period.
Before your bioremodelling treatment appointment
AVOID BLOOD-THINNING SUPPLEMENTS AND MEDICATIONS
Stop taking fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, and aspirin-based products at least one week before your appointment. These may increase the likelihood and severity of bruising. If you take prescription blood thinners, do not stop them without consulting your prescribing doctor — but do let your medical professional know.
NO ALCOHOL FOR 48 HOURS BEFORE TREATMENT
Alcohol thins the blood and dilates blood vessels. Drinking in the two days before treatment may increase bruising risk. This applies to all types of alcohol, including wine and beer.
INFORM YOUR PRACTITIONER OF ALL MEDICATIONS
Disclose every medication, supplement, and herbal remedy you are currently taking. Some may interact with the procedure or with the anaesthetic used during treatment. This includes over-the-counter products.
CONSIDER STARTING ARNICA
If recommended by your medical professional as part of your treatment plan, some patients choose to take arnica tablets in the days leading up to treatment and for a short period afterwards. These are commonly available from pharmacies without a prescription.
ARRIVE WITH CLEAR SKIN
Come to your appointment with a freshly cleansed face, free of makeup, SPF, and moisturiser. This allows your medical professional to accurately assess the skin and mark injection points without interference from product residue.
DISCLOSE ANY RECENT AESTHETIC TREATMENT
If you have had any injectable treatments, energy-based devices, chemical peels, or microneedling in the past four weeks, inform your medical professional. Your practitioner may adjust your treatment plan depending on recent procedures.
What to expect immediately after treatment
Bioremodelling treatments are delivered using a series of small injections. The exact technique and number of treatment points are determined by your medical professional following assessment of the treatment area.
Immediately after the procedure, you may notice small raised bumps (sometimes called wheals) at the treatment points. These may occur and are simply the product sitting beneath the skin before it begins to settle. In many cases, they flatten within 12 to 24 hours, although this can vary between individuals.
Mild swelling, tenderness, and warmth in the treated area may also occur. Some patients experience more swelling than others as every patient responds differently. The face, neck, decolletage, hands, inner arms, and knees may respond slightly differently to treatment.
Bruising may occur at treatment points. While many patients experience little to no bruising, it is a medical procedure involving needles, and bruising cannot be guaranteed against.
Bioremodelling treatment aftercare guidance
The Dos
Do not touch, rub, massage, or press on the treated area. The product needs time to naturally settle beneath the skin. Putting pressure on the area may affect overall recovery.
Bioremodelling treatments are associated with skin hydration, and maintaining good hydration supports general skin health during recovery. Drinking adequate water in the days following treatment is recommended. Aim for around two litres per day unless advised otherwise by your medical professional.
Sleep with an extra pillow for the first night to reduce fluid accumulation and swelling. Avoid sleeping face-down for at least 48 hours.
If swelling is uncomfortable, apply a clean, cold compress gently to the area for 10 minutes at a time with breaks in between. Do not apply ice directly to the skin. Light cold application may help manage swelling in the first 24 hours.
Visible changes following bioremodelling treatment may take time to develop. Unlike some treatments that produce an immediate visible effect, the response to bioremodelling occurs gradually as the skin responds over the following weeks. Changes, when they occur, typically become noticeable over a period of approximately four to eight weeks.
As bioremodelling treatments are performed as a two-session protocol, the second session forms an important part of the treatment plan. Delaying or missing it may affect the intended treatment schedule.
If something does not look or feel right at any point during your recovery, call the clinic. The Luxe Lips team has a 24/7 medical professional available. No question is too small and no concern is too early.
The Dont's
Unlike some cosmetic procedures where massage may be recommended, areas treated with bioremodelling should generally not be massaged. The treatment is placed within the tissue, and the area typically settles naturally during the recovery period. Manual manipulation may increase irritation or swelling.
Elevated heart rate, blood pressure, and sweating may increase swelling and bruising. Avoid the gym, running, hot yoga, and any strenuous physical activity for at least 24 hours. Light walking is generally acceptable, but you may wish to confirm this with your medical professional.
Saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, hot showers directed at the treated area, and prolonged sun exposure may increase swelling or irritation. Keep the area cool and protected for at least two days.
Alcohol may increase blood flow, promote swelling, and worsen bruising. It also contributes to dehydration which may affect general post-treatment comfort. Wait a minimum of 48 hours before consuming any alcohol.
Do not schedule other aesthetic procedures such as fillers, microneedling, chemical peels, or energy-based device treatments for at least two weeks after bioremodelling unless your medical professional specifically advises otherwise. The product needs time to settle without interference from other procedures.
Allow the treated areas time to settle before applying makeup, as this may introduce bacteria and irritate the small puncture points. Wait at least 12 hours—ideally 24—before applying any makeup.
Skincare and nutrition after bioremodelling treatment
Skincare
Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and a plain hydrating moisturiser for the first two days. Avoid any products that contain active ingredients, fragrance, or exfoliating properties.
Retinol, AHAs, BHAs, higher-strength vitamin C serums, and exfoliating products should be avoided for several days, as they may cause irritation while the skin is settling.
Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen every morning from the day after treatment. Protecting the skin from UV exposure helps reduce irritation and supports general skin health during the recovery period. Consistent sun protection is an important part of any regular skincare routine.
A simple hyaluronic acid serum applied to damp skin can support general hydration. Choose a straightforward, fragrance-free option. Your practitioner may advise you if you are unsure which product to select.
Food & Drink
The alcohol restriction previously mentioned remains in place. Opt for water, herbal tea, or sparkling water when socialising, as hydration supports general wellbeing during recovery.
In addition to staying well-hydrated, incorporating water-rich foods into your meals can help maintain overall hydration. Options like soups, smoothies, and fresh fruits contribute to overall hydration. Also consider a balanced diet that includes antioxidants and adequate protein to support general health.
High temperatures may increase blood flow to the treated areas, which may also contribute to temporary swelling. On the day of your appointment, allow hot drinks and soups to cool to a comfortable temperature before consuming them.
How bioremodelling works beneath the surface
Bioremodelling differs from dermal fillers in how it interacts with the skin. Rather than creating structural volume, the formulation disperses through the surrounding tissue and is intended to support aspects of overall skin quality. The treatment is associated with activity in the skin involving fibroblasts – the cells responsible for maintaining structural proteins such as collagen and elastin, as well as naturally occurring hyaluronic acid within the skin.
The response develops gradually. Over several weeks, the treated area undergoes a slow adjustment as the skin responds to the treatment within the surrounding tissue. Any changes, when they occur, tend to be subtle and progressive rather than immediate, reflecting the skin’s natural pace.
Bioremodelling treatments are commonly performed as a two-session protocol. The first session introduces the treatment, while the second session — typically scheduled around four weeks later — allows the practitioner to assess how the skin is responding and build on the initial treatment. After this initial course, some people choose periodic maintenance treatments at intervals recommended by their medical professional.
Commonly treated areas include the face, neck, décolletage, hands, inner arms, and knees — regions where changes in hydration, elasticity, and overall skin quality may become more noticeable over time. Injection points and technique are selected individually based on your practitioner’s assessment of your skin.
Your second session and ongoing maintenance
Bioremodelling treatments are typically performed as a two-session protocol. The second session is usually scheduled around four weeks after the first and forms part of the standard treatment plan.
At your second appointment, your skin will be assessed on how it responded to the initial treatment, which will help determine whether any adjustments to the treatment approach are appropriate.
Following the initial two-session course, maintenance treatments may be recommended at intervals of approximately six to twelve months, as determined by your medical professional.
If you have questions about your progress between sessions, or if you would like to discuss combining bioremodelling with other treatments, you can raise these at your next appointment. Clinical photographs may be taken at each session to help your practitioner review changes in skin appearance over time.
Your treatment plan
At Luxe Lips, treatment planning often follows a structured approach that considers skin quality, facial structure, and refinement. Bioremodelling treatments are sometimes introduced early in this process, as part of a broader discussion about skin quality.
Medical professionals may consider factors such as hydration, elasticity, and overall skin condition when developing a treatment plan. Addressing skin quality can be an important component of long-term aesthetic planning, and it may influence how different treatments are sequenced.
Research in aesthetic medicine has explored multimodal treatment approaches. For example, the HARMONY study reported differences in patient satisfaction when multiple treatment modalities were incorporated into personalised treatment plans (Weinkle et al., 2018).
Other clinical work has examined parameters such as skin hydration and elasticity following treatments using hybrid cooperative complexes (Sparavigna & Tenconi, 2016).
- Bioremodelling + dermal filler: In some treatment plans, bioremodelling may be performed prior to dermal filler. Practitioners sometimes sequence treatments this way when both skin quality and structural support are being considered.
- Bioremodelling + energy-based devices: Energy-based devices, such as Fotona 5D or radiofrequency treatments, may also be incorporated into treatment plans that address multiple aspects of skin quality. These technologies interact with different layers of the skin and are sometimes discussed alongside treatments that focus on hydration and tissue quality.
- Bioremodelling + wrinkle treatments: Wrinkle treatments are commonly used to address dynamic lines associated with repeated muscle movement. Bioremodelling may be discussed in treatment plans that also consider the condition and quality of the skin itself. When both approaches are considered, practitioners evaluate how each treatment addresses different contributors to visible facial ageing — including movement, skin quality, and overall tissue characteristics — before determining the most appropriate sequence.
- The 12-month cycle: Bioremodelling treatments are commonly incorporated into longer-term aesthetic treatment planning rather than performed as a one-off procedure. A typical approach involves an initial course of two sessions spaced approximately four weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments at intervals of around six to twelve months. This schedule allows medical professionals to review how the skin responds over time and to consider when further treatment may be appropriate as part of an ongoing plan for skin quality and maintenance.
Healing timeline
The timeline below reflects experiences commonly reported after treatment. Individual responses and recovery patterns vary.
Day 1
Small raised bumps (often called wheals) may be visible at the treatment points. Mild swelling, tenderness, warmth, and occasional minor bruising may occur. The bumps often settle within approximately 12–24 hours. A cold compress may be used if needed, and the treated area should not be touched or manipulated.
Days 2–3
The raised bumps have usually settled. Swelling typically begins to reduce. Any bruising may become more visible as it develops. Tenderness may lessen during this time. The skin may feel slightly tight or dry. Gentle skincare and daily SPF may be resumed.
Days 4–7
Bruising, if present, may begin to fade and change colour as it resolves. Swelling generally continues to settle. Some patients report subtle changes in how the skin feels, such as improved smoothness or hydration, although visible changes may still be minimal at this stage.
Weeks 2–4
Changes within the skin may continue to develop during this period. Bioremodelling treatments are associated with processes in the skin involving fibroblasts and structural proteins such as collagen and elastin. Some patients begin to notice gradual changes in skin hydration or texture during this time. The second treatment session is commonly scheduled around this stage.
Weeks 4–8 (After Second Session)
Further gradual changes may occur as the skin continues to respond following the second session. Some patients report improvements in aspects such as skin texture, hydration, or firmness over the following weeks, although the degree and timing of these changes varies between individuals.
Months 3-6
Changes in skin quality may continue to evolve over time. Some patients describe their skin as appearing more hydrated or refreshed during this stage. Maintenance treatments may be discussed at intervals of approximately six to twelve months.
What is normal vs what warrants a call
Normal
- ✓Small raised bumps (wheals) at injection points that often settle within 12–24 hours
- ✓Mild swelling that may peak on the day of treatment and reduce over the following days
- ✓Bruising at or near treatment points, ranging from faint to moderate
- ✓Tenderness or mild discomfort when touching the treated area
- ✓A sensation of tightness or dryness in the skin during the first few days
- ✓Slight redness at treatment points
These effects are commonly observed following treatment. Individual responses vary — some patients experience several of these effects, while others experience very few.
Contact the clinic promptly if you experience
- !Swelling that increases significantly after day two rather than improving
- !Lumps or nodules that remain raised and firm beyond 48 hours
- !Signs of infection — increasing redness, warmth, pus, or fever
- !An unusual rash, widespread redness, or hive-like reaction
- !Persistent pain that worsens rather than improves over the first 48 hours
Seek Urgent Care Immediately
- ⚠Sudden vision changes — blurred vision, partial vision loss, or any visual disturbance
- ⚠Skin that turns pale or white (blanches) and does not return to its normal colour within a few seconds
- ⚠Severe or increasing pain that does not improve over time
- ⚠Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- ⚠Signs of anaphylaxis — widespread swelling, hives, dizziness, rapid heartbeat
These symptoms may indicate a vascular event or allergic reaction. Do not wait to see if they resolve. Call the Luxe Lips emergency line immediately and, if directed, present to your nearest emergency department. Time is critical.
Your follow-up appointment
Your follow-up is scheduled for approximately four weeks after your initial treatment to complete the two-session protocol. This specific timing is designed to support the skin’s natural response and the cumulative effect of the treatment plan.
At this second appointment, your practitioner will perform the final stage of the clinical plan. Every individual’s skin responds differently; however, the remodeling process typically evolves over a period of approximately four to eight weeks following the completion of the second session. This period allows for the gradual integration of the treatment.
Adhering to the recommended treatment interval is an important factor in the overall clinical process. Delaying or skipping the second session may affect the intended treatment schedule and the practitioner’s ability to assess your progress.

Common questions about bioremodelling treatment aftercare
How long does it take to see results from bioremodelling?
Bioremodelling works gradually. The skin’s response typically develops over several weeks as biological processes involving fibroblasts continue within the tissue. Many patients notice more visible changes after the second session, although the timing and degree of change varies between individuals.
Is bioremodelling the same as dermal filler?
No. Dermal fillers add volume by occupying space beneath the skin. Bioremodelling does not add structural volume – it disperses through the tissue and is associated with processes in the skin involving collagen, elastin, and naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. Because the treatments address different aspects of facial ageing, practitioners may sometimes discuss them together as part of a broader treatment plan.
How many bioremodelling sessions do I need?
Bioremodelling treatments are commonly performed as a two-session protocol. The first session introduces the treatment and allows the practitioner to observe how the skin responds. The second session is usually scheduled around four weeks later and forms part of the standard treatment plan. At this appointment, the medical professional reviews the response to the initial treatment and determines whether any adjustments are appropriate. After the two-session course, maintenance treatments may be recommended every six to twelve months depending on your medical professional’s assessment.
Does bioremodelling hurt?
The treatment involves multiple small injections, so brief discomfort may occur. Some clinics apply a topical numbing cream beforehand depending on the treatment area and your practitioner’s assessment. Most patients describe the sensation as a quick sting at each injection point.
Can bioremodelling be used on the neck and hands?
Yes. It is commonly used on the face, neck, décolletage, hands, inner arms, and knees — areas where changes in hydration and elasticity are often noticed. Your practitioner will recommend which zones are most suitable based on your assessment.
What happens if I skip the second bioremodelling session?
Bioremodelling is performed as a two-session protocol, with sessions spaced about four weeks apart. The second session forms part of the treatment plan and allows the practitioner to assess how the skin has responded to the first treatment.
Skipping or significantly delaying the second session may affect the overall treatment course. If you need to reschedule, your clinic can advise on appropriate timing.
Can I have filler and bioremodelling at the same time?
Your practitioner will determine the appropriate order based on your treatment plan. In some cases, practitioners space bioremodelling and filler treatments by two to four weeks to allow the skin to settle between procedures.
Are the bumps after bioremodelling noticeable?
Yes, small raised bumps (known as wheals) may appear at the injection points immediately after treatment. These usually settle within approximately 12 to 24 hours as the skin settles following the injections.
Most patients feel comfortable returning to normal activities the following day.
Is there any downtime after bioremodelling?
Downtime is usually minimal, but individual responses vary. Temporary swelling, bumps, or bruising can occur and may take a few days to resolve. Many people feel comfortable returning to work or social activities the next day.
How long do bioremodelling results last?
The response to the initial two-session course may be maintained for several months, although the duration varies between individuals. Factors such as baseline skin condition, lifestyle, and environmental exposure can influence how long changes remain noticeable.
How long do I need to wait between bioremodelling and other injectable treatments?
Medical professionals often allow a period of around two weeks before or after other injectable treatments, such as dermal fillers or wrinkle treatments. They may also tailor the timing to your plan so each treatment integrates appropriately.
How does bioremodelling fit into a long-term skin plan?
Many treatment plans follow a sequence: Skin Quality (bioremodelling) -> Structure (filler) -> Refinement (wrinkle treatment or other modalities.) Bioremodelling often sits at the beginning of the process. After the initial two sessions, periodic maintenance treatments may be recommended as part of ongoing treatment planning.
