Morpheus8 Aftercare
Your complete recovery guide from the Luxe Lips clinical team

Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to remodel tissue at a deeper level than either technology achieves alone. The treatment delivers RF energy through a matrix of fine needles that penetrate the skin, heating the underlying tissue to stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin from within.
Understanding the Morpheus8 recovery process and healing stages is important for achieving optimal results. It is used to treat wrinkles, acne scarring, skin laxity, stretch marks, and uneven texture. Because the needles create micro-wounds and the RF generates a controlled thermal response, the recovery period requires careful skincare and sun protection.
This guide covers your complete Morpheus8 aftercare following treatment at Luxe Lips. Treatment depth and intensity are tailored to each patient based on their specific concerns, skin type, and goals — no two Morpheus8 treatments are exactly alike.
Before your morpheus8 appointment
Sun avoidance
Avoid deliberate sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks before your appointment. Tanned or sun-damaged skin is more reactive to both the needling and the radiofrequency energy, increasing the risk of pigmentation changes.
Retinol and active skincare
Discontinue retinol, retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and any prescription-strength topicals for at least seven days before treatment. These products can thin the skin barrier and increase sensitivity.
Arrive with clean skin
Come to your appointment with a clean face. No makeup, sunscreen, or skincare products. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and numbing cream will be applied at the clinic.
Inform your practitioner of medications
Let your practitioner know if you are taking blood-thinning medications or supplements (such as aspirin, fish oil, or vitamin E), as these can increase bruising. You may be advised to pause certain supplements before treatment.
What to expect immediately after treatment
Immediately after Morpheus8, your skin will appear red and swollen, with a distinctive grid-like pattern of tiny pinpoint marks across the treated area. These marks correspond to the microneedle tips and are completely normal. The area will feel hot and tight, similar to a moderate sunburn.
Swelling is common, particularly in areas with thinner skin such as the under-eyes and cheeks. The swelling is usually most noticeable on the morning after treatment and gradually subsides over the following two to three days.
You may notice some pinpoint bleeding or slight oozing at the needle entry points immediately after treatment. This resolves quickly and is part of the normal wound healing response.

What to do and what to avoid during recovery
Apply SPF 50+ daily
Once redness has subsided enough to tolerate sunscreen (typically from day two or three), apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen every morning. Mineral sunscreens are preferred as they sit on the skin surface and are less likely to irritate the micro-wounds. Sun protection is critical to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Keep your skin hydrated
Use a gentle, fragrance-free hydrating serum (hyaluronic acid is ideal) and moisturiser from day one. The micro-channels created by the needles allow products to penetrate more effectively, so everything you apply should be gentle and free of irritants.
Cleanse gently
Wash your face with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser from the evening of your treatment. Use lukewarm water and your fingertips — no face cloths, brushes, or exfoliating tools. Pat dry gently.
Sleep elevated on the first night
Use an extra pillow to keep your head elevated the night after treatment. This helps reduce facial swelling and makes the following morning more comfortable.
Be patient with the results
Morpheus8 results develop over time as new collagen is produced at depth. The real transformation happens between four and twelve weeks after treatment, with continued improvement for up to six months.
Do not apply makeup for 24 to 48 hours
The micro-channels in your skin remain open for approximately 24 to 48 hours after treatment. Applying makeup during this window risks introducing bacteria and pigments into the deeper layers of the skin. Wait until the channels have closed before applying any cosmetic products.
Do not use active skincare for five to seven days
Avoid retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C at high concentrations, benzoyl peroxide, and any exfoliating products for at least five to seven days. The micro-channels increase absorption, and active ingredients can cause significant irritation when they penetrate deeper than intended.
Do not expose treated skin to direct sun
UV exposure during the healing phase can trigger hyperpigmentation that may be difficult to resolve. Stay out of direct sunlight for the first week, and commit to SPF 50+ daily for at least three months following treatment.
Do not exercise vigorously for 48 hours
Sweating introduces bacteria to the open micro-channels and can worsen redness and swelling. Avoid intense exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and hot yoga for at least 48 hours.
Do not touch your face unnecessarily
Keep your hands away from the treated area as much as possible in the first 24 hours. The micro-channels are open and vulnerable to bacteria from your fingers.
Do not use harsh cleansers or scrubs
Avoid any abrasive or exfoliating cleansers for at least one week. The treated skin needs gentle care while the micro-wounds heal and the collagen remodelling process begins.
Skincare and nutrition after Morpheus8
Skincare
Day of treatment
Your practitioner may apply a soothing recovery mask or serum immediately after treatment. At home, you may gently cleanse with lukewarm water in the evening and apply a hydrating serum and gentle moisturiser. Nothing else should be applied to the skin.
Days 1–3
Gentle cleanser, hyaluronic acid serum, and a simple moisturiser only. The micro-channels are still closing during this period, so every product you apply should be free of actives, fragrance, and potential irritants.
Days 3–7
Continue with gentle hydrating products. You may introduce mineral SPF 50+ once the redness has settled enough to tolerate it. The grid marks are fading and the skin is beginning to normalise.
Days 7–14
Your skin should be feeling much more comfortable. You may begin to reintroduce your normal moisturisers and serums, provided they do not contain strong actives. Continue with SPF 50+ daily.
Week 2 onwards: resuming actives
After five to seven days (or longer if the skin is still sensitive), gradually reintroduce active ingredients starting with the mildest (such as a low-concentration vitamin C or niacinamide) before progressing to retinol and exfoliating acids. Introduce one product at a time, leaving two to three days between each new addition.
Food & Drink
The 48-hour alcohol restriction is the single most important dietary consideration. When dining out or socialising, opt for sparkling water, herbal tea, or coconut water. Try to drink at least two litres of water daily. These keep you hydrated.
Beyond the hydration advice above, include water-rich foods in your meals. Soups, smoothies, and fresh fruits all contribute. A balanced diet rich in antioxidants and protein supports your body’s recovery process.
While not a requirement, foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, walnuts, flaxseeds), antioxidants (berries, leafy greens), and vitamin C (citrus, capsicum) support the body’s natural healing and collagen production processes.
Heat increases blood flow to the treated area, which can worsen swelling. Allow hot drinks and soups to cool to a comfortable temperature before consuming them on the day of treatment.
Understanding the grid-like marks
One of the most distinctive features of Morpheus8 recovery is the grid-like pattern of tiny pinpoint marks visible on the skin immediately after treatment. These marks correspond to each microneedle tip and are a normal part of the treatment.
The marks are caused by the combination of the needle entry and the RF energy delivered at each point. They may appear as small dots that are slightly red, brown, or bruised in colour. In most patients, these marks fade significantly within three to five days and are usually invisible by one week.
The depth and intensity of the marks depends on the treatment settings used. Deeper treatments for acne scarring or skin laxity will produce more visible marks than lighter treatments for general skin rejuvenation. Your practitioner will explain what to expect based on your specific treatment parameters.
If the marks are cosmetically bothersome during the first few days, they can usually be covered with mineral makeup once 24 to 48 hours have passed.
Your treatment plan
At Luxe Lips, Morpheus8 is one of the most versatile longevity tools in our treatment offering. Within the Skin Quality → Structure → Refinement framework, Morpheus8 bridges the gap between skin quality and structural improvement. RF microneedling stimulates collagen at depth while simultaneously improving surface texture and tone.
As a longevity tool, Morpheus8 is particularly powerful because it creates a stronger dermal foundation that makes injectable treatments more effective and longer-lasting. RF microneedling stimulates the body’s own collagen production, reducing reliance on volume-based treatments over time. A 4.5-year review confirmed the safety of combining cosmetic injectables with radiofrequency microneedling (Wang et al. 2021), and an 18-year study of 1,040 patients found no adverse events when combining energy devices with injectables (Suh et al. 2025).
Morpheus8 works synergistically with several complementary treatments. When combined with bioremodelling, the skin receives both deep structural stimulation and enhanced hydration from within. When sequenced before structural filler, the collagen foundation created by Morpheus8 helps the filler integrate more effectively and last longer. Clinical evidence shows that combined radiofrequency and hyaluronic acid filler treatment produces superior skin rejuvenation outcomes (Kim et al. 2014).
Over a 12-month plan, Morpheus8 sessions are typically scheduled in an initial series of two to four treatments, followed by maintenance sessions every three to six months. Between Morpheus8 sessions, complementary treatments like bioremodelling, gentle energy devices like Forma, or targeted injectables, maintain momentum and build on the collagen foundation.
The consultation is where your personalised plan begins. Your practitioner will conduct a full facial assessment, listen to your goals, and design a staged 12-month strategy that delivers gradual, natural-looking structural optimisation.
When you’re ready, you can schedule a session to discuss your next steps at our Moonee Ponds, Camberwell, or Brighton cosmetic clinic.

Your follow-up appointment
Most patients benefit from a series of two to four Morpheus8 treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. The cumulative effect of multiple sessions produces the most significant and lasting results.
At each follow-up appointment, your practitioner will assess your skin’s response, take progress photographs, and adjust treatment depth and settings as needed. The goal is progressive improvement, each session builds on the collagen foundation established by the previous one.

Frequently asked questions about morpheus8 aftercare
When will I see results from Morpheus8?
Initial improvement in skin texture may be noticeable within two weeks, but the primary results develop over four to twelve weeks as new collagen is produced. Optimal results are typically visible at three to six months.
How many Morpheus8 sessions do I need?
Most treatment plans involve two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. The number of sessions depends on your concerns and goals — deeper acne scarring or significant laxity may benefit from more sessions.
Is Morpheus8 painful?
Topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to minimise discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a combination of mild pressure and warmth. Deeper treatment settings may feel more intense but are well tolerated with adequate numbing.
Can I wear makeup after Morpheus8?
Wait 24 to 48 hours before applying any makeup. The micro-channels are open during this period and applying cosmetics can introduce bacteria or pigments into the deeper layers of the skin. After 48 hours, mineral-based makeup is recommended.
Is Morpheus8 better than regular microneedling?
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy, which heats the deeper tissue and stimulates a more robust collagen response than microneedling alone. It is particularly effective for skin tightening and deeper concerns such as acne scarring, which standard microneedling may not address as effectively.
Can Morpheus8 be used on the body?
Yes, Morpheus8 is used on the face, neck, décolletage, abdomen, and other body areas to treat skin laxity, stretch marks, and textural concerns. The same aftercare principles apply to all treated areas.
What is the downtime for Morpheus8?
Most patients experience visible redness and grid marks for three to five days, with the most intense phase on day one to two. Most patients feel comfortable returning to normal activities (with mineral makeup if needed) by day three to five.
Can I exercise after Morpheus8?
Avoid vigorous exercise for 48 hours after treatment. Sweating introduces bacteria to the open micro-channels and can worsen redness and swelling. Light walking is fine from the same day.
Is Morpheus8 safe for darker skin tones?
Morpheus8’s RF energy is colour-blind — it heats tissue regardless of skin colour, which makes it generally safer for darker skin types than some laser treatments. However, the microneedling component can still trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in susceptible individuals, so a consultation to assess suitability is essential.
What should I put on my face after Morpheus8?
For the first 48 hours, use only a gentle cleanser and the prescribed healing ointment or serum recommended by your practitioner. Avoid all active ingredients — including retinol, vitamin C, AHAs, and BHAs — until your practitioner clears you. The micro-channels created by the needles remain open for approximately 24 to 48 hours, so everything you apply should be gentle and free of potential irritants.
How does Morpheus8 fit into a comprehensive skin plan?
RF microneedling is a powerful collagen stimulator that works synergistically with injectable treatments. It creates a stronger dermal foundation that makes filler look better and last longer, reducing reliance on volume over time. At Luxe Lips, Morpheus8 is often sequenced alongside bioremodelling and structural injectables as part of a 12-month skin investment plan — your practitioner will design a personalised approach based on a full facial assessment.
How long do the grid marks last after Morpheus8?
The distinctive grid-like marks typically last between one and three days following your Morpheus8 treatment. These marks are most prominent in the first 48 hours while the micro-channels are healing and the skin is at its most sensitive.
As the skin renewal process begins, these marks will gradually fade and may feel slightly textured, similar to fine sandpaper, before smoothing out entirely. Most patients find that any residual appearance of the grid is completely resolved by the end of the first week.
